Are the gas stations at private gas stations reliable? Why are they cheaper?

Private gas stations are cheaper because they have their own supply channels, saving a lot of money. However, their reliability depends on the quality of their supply channels.

Private gas stations are cheaper because they have their own supply channels, saving a lot of money. However, their reliability depends on the quality of their supply channels.

Currently, the price of diesel and gasoline at independent refineries is around 7,000 yuan per ton, which translates to about 6 yuan per liter. The profit margin is therefore quite small. However, some private gas stations don't require invoices and don't pay the nearly 900 yuan per ton tax, allowing them to lower their prices accordingly. This is a general overview; below, I will explain the reasons why private gas stations are cheaper.

Many people know that gas stations from major oil companies like PetroChina, Sinopec, and CNOOC are relatively expensive, but their quality is indeed better than other oil companies. I think most people would agree on this. However, if you insist on asking why they are better, well... you'll have to figure it out yourself. (Having worked in this industry, I know the reasons, and I feel the difference isn't that significant—if the quality is the same.)

Secondly, many private gas stations don't require invoices, which correspondingly lowers the price. The three major oil companies import crude oil, which is then refined and blended before being distributed to gas stations across the country. Their advantage is large-scale production and stable oil quality, but their large scale leads to high management costs and network establishment expenses. Private gas stations, on the other hand, reduce intermediaries, resulting in lower costs, but the quality of their oil varies.

However, as long as the fuel comes from a legitimate independent refinery, the quality is generally guaranteed. Even the three major state-owned oil companies (Sinopec, PetroChina, and CNOOC) source fuel from independent refineries on a small scale. The problem with privately owned gas stations is the inconsistent quality. For example, many private gas stations blend gasoline, which doesn't come from independent refineries but is made from naphtha, aromatics, and other raw materials, making it much cheaper. However, this type of gasoline contains more impurities, which can easily corrode engines and pipelines, leading to increased fuel consumption, excessive emissions, and even engine damage.

In conclusion, whether the fuel at a privately owned gas station is problematic requires specific analysis and cannot be generalized. It is recommended to choose reputable privately owned gas stations. If you are unfamiliar with a gas station, even if the price is low, it is not advisable to use it.
